Retreats

Bozeman Zen Group offers half and full-day sittings on Zoom and in-person.

These retreats offers us a time to stabilize and deepen our zazen practice, hear the teaching and engage with Zen forms. If you are new to retreat practice, and wish to learn more about how to participate, contact us at bznzen@gmail.com. For weekend and longer retreats, visit our Guest Teacher tab.

In addition to the offerings below, we will also offer a full day retreat in honor of Rohatsu, Buddha’s Enlightenment, in early December (TBD).

Please visit bozemandharmacenter.org for upcoming retreat offerings sponsored by the BDC.

2024 Saturday 1/2 day sittings (so far) , 9:00 am – 1:00 pm:

  • January 20 – You can register here. Scholarships always available

  • April 20 – Koan Salon with Michael Smith and Karen DeCotis.  Koan is a Japanese term that refers to a legal public case. In Zen, koans are designed to give us pause, to enter deeply our own case.  We will spend the morning sitting several short periods of zazen, each with a phrase, a story, a poem. There will be walking meditation, and time after each “koan” to consider together. All are welcome, no previous experience with koans is necessary. Register here.

Sunday 1/2 day sittings, 9:00 – 1:00 pm: (no Sunday study groups or in person 5:00 pm practice on these Sundays in 2024):

  • February 25 – Foundations of Mindfulness – a Zen perspective. You can register here. Scholarships are always available.

  • March 24: Pamela Weiss – part of weekend retreat. There will be a Bodhisattva/Full Moon Ceremony as part of the morning. Register for full retreat here.
